Obtain a copy of the paper "An Integrated Image Understanding Benchmark: Recognition of a 2 1/2 D "Mobile", by Charles Weems, Edward Riseman, Allen Hanson, and Azriel Rosenfeld, COINS TR 88-34. A copy of this paper will be made available in the filing cabinet on the 2nd floor of applied sciences for course handouts. Summarize the article in one paragraph, and describe in two paragraphs, the issues in benchmarking the ImageVision libraries using their approach.
Obtain a copy of Hanrahan and Levoy's paper, ``Light Field Rendering'', to appear SIGGRAPH '96, WWW URL (http://www-graphics.stanford.edu). In one paragraph describe how Levoy and Hanrahan use the Hough transform to compute their light fields, and the issues in the sampling of lines used to represent the light field .
Design your own application (paper design) using the material which we have covered in class, so that the application uses low level vision, mid level vision, and high level vision. Describe the goals of the application, the proposed implementation, and the expected performance. Note how you expect your implementation to be efficient in a time and memory usage sense.
