UCSC BME 220 Project Proposal

Protein Bioinformatics, Spring 2007

(Last Update: 11:59 PST, 9 March 2007 )
Everyone in BME 220 needs to do a project this quarter. PhD students who are doing a protein-related lab rotation this quarter can use the project from their lab rotation. PhD students doing a non-protein-related lab rotation should do a mini-project for this class—a two-week project rather than a ten-week one. All other students should do a full project.

There is a list of project suggestions on projects.html, but students are welcome to suggest other projects—particularly if they find a faculty mentor interested in supervising the project.

A written project proposal is due from each student by Friday 13 April, at the beginning of class. This proposal should be between one and five pages long. It should not be just an echo of one of the project outlines on the project page, but should indicate that the student has done some thought on the project and understands what is to be done. The paper should have a clear description of what the project is to accomplish. Also desired are citations of papers to read, a schedule of milestones, questions that need to be answered, and people who will be important information resources.

The proposal should be thought of as the first draft of the final report, as you will reuse most of the material in this proposal in the introduction for the final report.

Also, please send Kevin Karplus, by e-mail, plain text containing a title and one- or two-paragraph description of your project, that can be put up on the class web page. If you want to send a file name for a PDF file containing your proposal that is publicly readable on the School of Engineering computers, we can copy the PDF file and link to it from the proposal summary page.
